i think this bug is a dupe of bug #868400 (or the other way around)

the problem is that synaptic and gnome both disable the touchpad and go
out of sync (ie: when one enables the touchpad, the other disables it)

the keyboard issues might be a different bug, probably a apps stealing
focous. either way, most people where are describing is the #868400 bug.
that bug have a workaround (ie: disable the gnome "disable touchpad"
keybinding)
