I seem to be getting the same error (well, the Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal machine check on current CPU line). This seems to happen whenever I run "cp -Rf /media/usb /" or "mkfs.ext2/4 /dev/sda3". I haven't run the memtest86+ or S.M.A.R.T tests at all, but I did run Prime95 for 2 hours and 55 minutes and there was 0 errors/warnings. My computer has 2 dual core processors though, but I don't think that's the problem. I've posted more info about me cpu here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=127915
