Have the same issue on Feisty AMD64 (kernel .15) with ATI Radeon Xpress 200M on Packard Bell EasyNote R3450 motherboard, and using the latest ATI drivers (8.36.5).
Tried about every option changed in /etc/default/acpi-support (inluding ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=mem > standby and HIBERNATE_MODE=shutdown > platform) without any satisfying results...
