Gauvain: This is a "real" bug, though of trivial importance. It causes the GTK warning and prevents mousepad's File->Open dialog from preselecting the file that's already open.
Simon: The commented out code that you found looks like an attempt to fix the symptoms. The GTK warning is actually produced much later inside the call to gtk_file_chooser_set_filename() in create_file_chooser() in selector.c.
