Hi, I am experiencing the same problem, I have Asus A3Ac notebook with IrDA and Ubuntu 7.04 installed. The serial port seems to work OK, but the SIR port gives me the same error as you experience. On the other hand on the same hardware I had OpenSuSE with kernels 2.6.18 and 2.6.21 and i did not have any problems. The IrDA worked out of the box. I spend some time trying to figure out what is wrong but unfortunately had no success. It apparently some stupid bug in Ubuntu distro.
