Public bug reported: I installed Oneiric beta2 on a laptop that has SATA RAID/fakeraid. The installation process failed to install GRUB, and choosing to install GRUB on another partition didn't work either.
However, I was able to install GRUB manually in the target chroot to /dev/mapper/isw_eahgecdhea_Volume0. This resulted in a system that could be booted but the boot would hang. To get a working system, I had to manually clean up the chroot with the following commands: mv /sbin/initctl.REAL /sbin/initctl mv /sbin/start-stop-daemon.REAL /sbin/start-stop-daemon Before that, I could see messages "Warning: Fake initctl called, doing nothing." but this didn't help me understand what was wrong before I read the ubiquity scripts.
