I am the maintainer of youtube-dl and I, personally, grab all my videos with the -t option and never had any issue like this that you mentioned. It is funny that this would happen, as the filter on characters are set up to only allow what python returns as `string.digits` or `string.ascii_letters`. There may be, though, some corner case with the escaping of unicode characters, but I'm yet to see that.
