After running for a few days this looks to perhaps be related to the other bugs of artsd CPU overload, crashing. I have disabled artsd and told my apps to use straight OSS and this seems to help. xmms particularly still has issues though. I'm thinking something in ALSA perhaps ? This machine had perfect sound in Dapper, Edgy had the arts CPU issue and now feisty seems to be a bit worse.
