I have the same problem on one Ubuntu host (feisty), which was upgraded from Egdy. There were some locale problems for some time ago, so it may be causing this.
$sudo dpkg --configure -a $ ls -l /usr/bin/python lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 2007-04-27 08:34 /usr/bin/python -> python2.5 $ sudo pycentral -v pkginstall language-selector pycentral: pycentral -v pkginstall language-selector pycentral: avail=['2.4', '2.5'], pkg=current, install=['2.5'] pycentral: install package language-selector pycentral: link shared files python2.5/language-selector pycentral: byte-compile files (3/3) python2.5 pycentral: ['/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/LanguageSelector/gtk/GtkLanguageSelector.py', '/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/LanguageSelector/gtk/SimpleGladeApp.py', '...'] After issuing these commands, I'm still seeing this problem.
