Public bug reported:

For the past 2 weeks, the Ubuntu 11.10 beta has not awoken from suspend
correctly on a Thinkpad T61 (nvidia). On wake from suspend, the screen
background has static multicolored "noise" pixels and opaque white
blocks stairstepped across it. The menu bar and launcher display
correctly. But dialog boxes drawn over the main desktop have the noise
(or are partially obscured if behind the white blocks).

This didn't occur when I was using the alpha release.
