While the orig. bug was filed on a 32 bit desktop & am currently using a 32 bit install on a laptop just booted to todays daily 64 bit Installed vlc, tried to open the playlist & easily seen. Terminal showed errors as in descript (X Errors), .xsessions shows 1000's of "compiz (opengl) - Info: Couldn't bind redirected window 0x3800006 to texture" use of the session degraded as in screenshot attached
