The problem is getting worse. This morning the problem was there again on my laptop which I use for work, so I checked for .gtk* files in my home dir. They existed (again) so I renamed them to *.old. Then I shut down the OOo quickstarter as before, restarted OOo... But the problem remained! I then tried to move the .gtk* files to another directory, repeating all other steps after that... but no success.
So right now I'm stuck with a seriously degraded OOo installation.
