Please make very sure that your user is indeed configured as an administrator but not set to UID 0; and that permissions in your home directory are fine... That's prety much the best I can suggest for fixing this without seeing the system (it's a little hard to guess what might be wrong). You can always seek help on IRC in #ubuntu or on forums to try and find out how to fix this for your user.
