It is backing up over SSH to an external harddrive. It turns out the folder that drive is mounted to was changed somehow, which broke the script. So it's all good now that I've restored it.
I didn't think that was the issue as the computer the drive is attached to also does backups which were working fine. But it must use a different reference to find the drive... Sorry about that.
