While I do understand your frustration, apport-collect gets atleast version information and the Dependencies.txt. While the dependency's are mostly useless, the version information helps to pin point where the problem first occurred and if newer versions might have fixed it or not. In Unity's case it also contains relevant logs and configuration, selected by the developers as important, to get the root cause or at least eliminate possible causes of a bug. For example you said your PC has a GeForce FX 5200 but you didn't mentioned if you have been using the proprietary drivers or not. Please not that while you may find the logs a waist, they might have precious clues to debug your problem even if they don't have a error line and while for you its easy reproducibly, it might not be for others.
You said terminal windows are fine, does gnome-terminal appear or you meant VT's? To add information, without popping the browser use apport-collect in a VT (CTRL+ALT+F1) and it will give you a link, if necessary, to continue the process on another computer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/839573 Title: blank main window oneric beta1 live cd - unity OK To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/839573/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
