James, I opened a new bug report (Bug #112406) on the second (UI) part. However, fixing this will presumably take up some time.
This issue, though, should be fixed real soon now (tm), since it renders network-manager-vpnc useless for many business (here, ma'am) users useless. I propose to raise the importance one level.
