Public bug reported: I wish that Nautilus would implement a hover-browse feature, similar to that in Mac OS X.
Here's how it works: 1. I start dragging (copy or move) a file or directory 2. I hover the mouse for a predetermined interval (2-5 seconds) over a "Place" or a folder. 3. Nautilus automatically browses to the folder. Process repeats for any sub-folders that I choose. A "Sproing" sound is appropriate auditory feedback. 4. I release the mouse button. 5. The copy begins. 6. Nautilus returns to the original path. A system that implements this well: Finder in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Alternatives / Workarounds: 1. The "Extra Pane" in Nautilus. 2. pushd and popd in bash. The existing Nautilus GUI is fully usable with the Extra Pane and/or with Tabs, so this really is just a "wishlist" request. However, I've been using the Mac OS X GUI a lot lately, and so I'm accustomed to this feature and I like it. It seems like an intuitive way to move files around. Also, if you're sitting there wondering if you should drop a file into a particular folder or "Place", revealing its contents seems like just the information you'd need to make the dscision.
