"Hope they get fixed soon as I find it quite discouraging"

It has already been fixed long time ago.
This issue occurred during _development_ of Feisty, when not all packages
concerning the x-server have been updated.
This is all common procedure during _development_. If you can't or don't want
to deal with stuff like this, don't run development versions.

"It gives one some cause for reservations in recommending novices use
Linux"

No it doesn't. Novices shouldn't be running development versions of _any_
operating systems.
Feisty is now stable and officially released. If you install or upgrade to that
version, the x-server will run fine.

I'm marking this bug as fixed. Since it was a very temporary side-effect
of upgrading the x-server. It seems people just forgot to mark it fixed.
