Austin: We probably shouldn't assume your problem is caused by ACPI or
that it's at all related to the backlight issue without more evidence.
I've updated the bug description accordingly.

First I'd suggest testing whether the computer has really hung or if the
display just isn't coming up. Try pinging the device on the network or
logging in via ssh when the machine is in this state.

If you determine the machine really has hung, please try the steps in
the following link to see if they provide any information about where
the hang is occurring and post your results here. Thanks!
