Screen corruption occurs after restarting from hibernation or suspend in
Ubuntu 9.10. Don't know if it is hibernate or suspend. Problem occurs
after I close the lid on my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop. Machine powers
off. When I later restart the machine, the screen corruption occurs.
The display is barely visible behind the multiple fast-moving vertical
and horizontal lines and boxes. Problem occurs on both the 32-bit and
64-bit Ubuntu CD when booted from the CD, and once a fresh install of
the 64-bit Ubuntu 9.10 was installed, the problem also occurs there.

On Ubuntu 9.04, the machine did not shut off when I closed the lid, and
hence there was no restart required. Simply open the lid and resume as
if the lid had never been closed.

Is there a workaround, such as disabling Ubuntu's action when the lid is
  closed?
