I tried but was not able to rerproduce this using mplayer or banshee on
the Oneiric system. Music playing through PulseAudio is not affected
when I log in to a different machine (11.04, so slightly different from
reported) on the same network.
That said ... The reported behavior sounds very much like the
PulseAudio's "Network Server" feature gone awry. Normally, that feature
is disabled by default but can be enabled by the app 'paprefs'. I
thought to check whether it was somehow enabled by default in Oneiric,
but I find that paprefs in Oneiric seems to have all its network option
panels grayed out (unselectable). Suspicious. @Brian, you might want
to try running paprefs to see if yours is also all grayed out, or if the
Network Server boxes are checked, or what. You might also check
/etc/pulse/*.pa for enabled lines that refer to
"module-{anything}-publish" (they're commented out on my Oneiric).
