What do you see when you run: apt-cache showpkg gdal-bin Perhaps you have a newer version of gdal-bin installed from eg ubuntugis/unstable which is blocking the upgrade of gdal-bin? In that case you can try: sudo aptitude install libgdal1-1.6.0/natty-proposed sudo aptitude install gdal-bin/natty-proposed Anyway: I just did the same thing, and it seems the error with GML is definitely fixed. I'm still doing some random other tests to be sure there are no regressions.
