As acpid is required in guest VMs for the Upstart pre-stop procedure to work, I'd like to suggest that acpid be included by default in Ubuntu Server virtual machine variants (or all Ubuntu Server default installs, for that matter). This will enable this feature to automatically work as expected in future versions of Ubuntu Server.
