This is still a problem in Natty. The effect is exactly the same as in the screenshot by jezdonline, and I am running Gnome/Mac4Lin. I guess one could suspect Mac4Lin as a source of the problem, but it makes Inkscape stand out from innumerable other apps that show no ill effects of any kind in this environment, and even Inkscape itself worked fine until about a year ago (I forget which version of Ubuntu I used then, but it was no more than a month behind current). Note that Mac4Lin is older than that, so whatever causes it must have changed in Inkscape or Gnome.
