Following the instructions in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto in section titled "Update to the latest version of alsa" I installed the lastest version of ALSA. I used the following configure command ./configure --with-debug=detect --with-cards=hda-intel for maximum debug output.
>From the output, it became apparent that the since the hda-intel driver >detects my sound hardware as a STAC9200 (and not one of the other, higher numbered models), the only parameter I can set for mode= is ref, any other value is ignored. And for the two settings available to me (i.e no setting or 'ref'), neither worked. So, the best I can figure is that the hda-intel driver does not support my particular version of the hda-intel hardware. I would escalate this to the ALSA developers, but unfortunately I no longer have regular access to that laptop. By the way, I've attached the debug output from the latest ALSA driver (from setting --with-debug=detect above), for both cases of the mode= setting. the case where I did not set the model, and the case where I set it to 'ref', in the event that anyone finds it useful (the files are debug.none and debug.ref respectively). ** Attachment added: "ALSA Driver debug output for Gateway NX270S laptop with no hda-intel model setting." http://librarian.launchpad.net/7500572/debug.none -- No Sound on Gateway NX270S with STAC9200 Chip https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
