Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.04
dpkg: Installed: 1.16.0~ubuntu7
grub-pc: Installed: 1.99~rc1-13ubuntu3

Update-manager couldn't configure the kernel update, so I tried with
dpkg and this was the output:

me@pc:~$ sudo dpkg --configure linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic

After unmounting /dev/sdb2 (on an external USB connected HDD, which
starts with the system and mounted automatically by fstab, it is not
bootable, only used for backups) it managed to configure the generic
kernel.
