Binary package hint: synaptic
I use ubuntu dapper with gnome. After installing today's upgrades
(8/19/06), synaptic and Add/Remove Programs no longer worked. I couldn't
open synaptic. Add/Remove Programs opened but quit when I tried to
install anything.
When I input synaptic into the command line, I got:
synaptic: error while loading shared libraries: libvte.so.4: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
However, aptitude still worked. In aptitude, I did some tweaking with
libvte-common. I'll attempt to be more specific with what i did,
although I'm not completely sure what it was (>_<). Basically, I think I
uninstalled the latest version which prompted it to install the previous
version (or something like that.)
