I have erased my partition with Feisty (beta) and then upgraded Edgy to Feisty (final version). Now it seems the problem has disappeared.
I don't think it was a problem with Beryl. I played a little with Beryl when I was using Edgy but when I installed Feisty herd 5 on an other partition Beryl was not installed. There was Compiz that could be enabled with desktop effects but, although I tried it, I always stopped it before shutting down the computer.
