I have the same issue - this is actually a regression introduced by Meerkat (or rather the kernel shipped with 10.10). I have been waiting for a fix since then. The latest 2.6.38-10 kernel still has this issue. (If this helps) I use a work-around to get the IP from my router - while the DHCP request is sent and awaiting response, I kill my 'wpa_supplicant' process using 'sudo killall wpa_supplicant' command. This aborts the network connection process and restarts. After killing wpa_supplicant, NM manages to get a response from my router and thus I get connected. However this is extremely inconsistent - sometimes I have to execute the 'killall' command around 4-5 times before my connection succeeds while at other times, it connects right after one execution of 'killall'.
Will be happy to oblige any requests for further information. Awaiting fix..
