I was aware of the Unity keyboard shortcuts that exist when I posted this "bug." And I had previously consulted the superb askubuntu list of keyboard shortcuts before posting. Holding down the super key does not address the issue I am talking about. To help better clarify what I am describing:
Say the user wants to maximize windows without the Launcher dodging. So even with a maximized window, the Launcher is still visible. The way to achieve this is with setting the Launcher to Always Show (or Never Hide). But there are times when users need additional horizontal space. A great analogy is found by comparing the Launcher to Nautilus's "Side Pane." In Nautilus, sometimes you need more horizontal space. So the user hits F9 and the "Side Pane" hides itself. When the user wants to bring back the Side Pane he taps F9 again. Holding the Super key does not simulate this functionality with the Launcher. I like the auto-hide and dodging behavior of the Launcher. I think you guys did a fantastic job. Nonetheless, I would find a shortcut like Nautilus's F9 extremely useful for the Launcher as well. Especially considering that the Unity desktop is expected to be deployed in many different working environments and on many different screen-sizes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747321 Title: keyboard shortcut needed for hiding/unhiding the Launcher in Unity- shell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/747321/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
