I am also experiencing this bug on 11.04 (2.6.38-10-generic) with a i3-2100. I'm using the onboard video (vga).
Looking in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old I see alot of these messages: [100341.245] (WW) intel(0): intel_uxa_prepare_access: bo map failed: Input/output error with one: [100341.184] (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch in the middle.
