After a few moments I got a Debian sid debootstrap successfully completed. The workaround for me was to create a symlink of $chroot/lib/libdevmapper.so.1.02 to $chroot/lib/libdevmapper.so.1.02.1 so that the chroot's mount of /proc will work.
