I always wonder if there is any department in the ubuntu team which is dedicated to the "reputation". There are quite a lot of bugs out there that hurt newbies.
This one is easy to fix, even fixed actually as we see in my previous post and the "vpnautoconnect" programm available somewhere. But no one patches the network manager or whatever to do this the easy way for newbies actually. (Wwho added the option to the GUI?? Why ist it still there when there is no code behind it?!) (Same goes for the nvidia driver for old nvdidia cards. The full release cycle of Natty was without support for my gf's gfx card. How can i tell her that Ubuntu rocks, when flash, video, even desktop laggs?! ) As you said, it hits the reputation. Sometimes i wish i was a skilled programmer. I would surely dedicate my free time to bugs like this one.
