well, I reported the bug on the same ami minutes later on a different instance, and it was an official build: ubuntu-images-testing-eu/ubuntu-lucid-daily-i386-server-20100407.1.manifest.xml
the instance i reported on would have had console output or I would have reported reproducing it.
