Sorry, switching to a different version kernel is simply not going to be
supportable in the open-vm-tools dkms package.  You can compile your own
version from upstream if you need that.

If someone would like to put the time into a open-vm-tools backport to
go along with kernel backports, that could (apparently) be valuable to
some.  I'm going to mark this bug invalid however.

The former dupes which were on the 2.6.32 kernel have been pulled apart
and will be addressed.
