If this is the same bug that I have been encountering, it occurs because the http://localhost/meta-release file is not getting updated with the correct url. For example the line
>Release-File: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/Release should be >Release-File: http://old- releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/Release This is also true for 7.10 and 8.10 I created a copy of the file, modified it and dropped it on a local server.
