I confirm the same problem happening on a Asus F3Sr running a fully- updated 10.04.2. System freeze after safely remove Transcend StoreJet 25 mobile (320G, NTFS). As other users have confirmed, rolling the kernel back to 2.6.32-32 fixes the problem. Temporary decision if you want use kernel 2.6.32-33 - using Gnome applet "Disk mounting" (I'm not sure in name of this applet, beacuse I use Russian locale).
