Oh my...! Yes, it was. I am so ashamed I posted this report. You can believe me, the first thing I checked was if the sound is muted when there was only alsa (with lubuntu, no pulse comes by default). After installing pulseaudio I probably checked only the volume levels and not if the channels are muted... Thank you for your help.
