There is an error on my comment, with FGLRX compiz start at 50 Mb and total RAM used at +/- 300 Mb, after some use compiz go to +/- 150/200 Mb and RAM to 1 Gb. With opensource compiz use at startup about 26 to 30 Mb and after some use only go to 30 or 36 Mb. RAM start at 290 or 300 Mb and stay under +/- 290 to 320 at idle. Hardware here is HP ProBook 4525 S / ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4250.
