Thanks for reporting this bug. It would be great if you could try a few
things to help find the problem. The first is to check if you have the
package libqt-perl installed since the handling of the java license
display needs that. Obviously if you don't have it install it and try
again. The next thing is when you try to install java click the 'show
details' button in adept and check what dpkg is saying. If you see any
errors relating to debconf front ends could you report those. Finally,
attempting to install java and then attaching /var/log/dpkg.log wouldn't
hurt.

Adept fails to install ubuntu-restricted-extras although apt-get installs it
just fine.
