I am on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty with kernal 2.6.38-8 generic, with 3.8 GB
RAM. I am using a Core i5 processor with integrated graphics. There is
no separate graphics card, although I did try a discrete card and still
had trouble. The problem occurs with hdmi to hdmi connection, or even a
DVI (computer) to HDMI connection. I am using an Asus P8H67-M Evo
board. The problem also occurred with 2 of these boards, as well as a
Gigabyte H55N-USB3 microATX board,

A randr -a command yields modes of:
1024x768 (0X48) 65.0 MHz
800x600 (0X459) 40 MHz
800x600 (0X4a) 36 MHz
848x480 (0x4b) 33.8 MHz
640x480 (0x4c) 25.2 MHz
