I haven't mixed any packages that I'm aware of. I got the snd-ice1712 driver
from ALSA as I was advised on Ubuntuforum.org. The alsa-utils is from the
repositories. I don't know enough to make changes to the default install. I
certainly wouldn't change the directories where the files installed.
Using this machine as a DAW is one of its main uses. This leaves me in a real
bind since about 30% of my income is from recording musicians. If I can't get
this sorted out I'll have to go back to windows, which I really wanted to get
away from.

Why is the upgrade script looking for directories that don't (and
shouldn't) exist?

Do you have any suggestions?
