The problem seems to be this:

:~# service rpc_pipefs start
start: Unknown parameter: JOB

Doing it by hand:
mount -t rpc_pipefs rpc_piefs /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs/

solves the idmap and so problem, something seems to be incorrect with
upstart and the rpc_pipefs initscript

had the same trouble on natty when setting specific settings in
/etc/defaults/nfs-* (yes/no) for the services there (idmap......)

It seems that the autodetection is not doing very well in maveric but in
natty

Hope this helps!
