It appears that this is related to the guest option as if I use username and password it works fine. The following command will work correctly "sudo mount -t cifs -o credentials=/media/.creds //XXX.XXX.X.XXX/Volume_1/game-1110-64-backup/ /media/bills-dns- game-1110-64-backup"
