Seb, I am afraid I shied away from trying the kernel that Serge suggested. This is my main (and only) machine and I did ot feel sufficiently confident with backing out the alternate kernel. I have a workaround for the problem by adding kernel parameters to instruct the guest to use clock=acpi_pm, this fixes the issue. I did attempt to create a new Trixbox image on my machine and this exhibits the same problem. I'm surprised that more people do not suffer from this issue but in truth it is only the Trixbox (Centos 5.4 I believe) image that has caused me problems.
