Would it be better to use xfce4-power-manager in Lubuntu. I run 11.04 at the moment and gnome-power-manager did not work at all, but removing the reference to it in /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart, @gnome-power-manager, installing xfce4-power-manager and replacing that with a line for xfce4 -power-manager, @xfce4-power-manager, does work very well.
