Hello:

I think that I'm suffering from the same problem on Natty, because I'm
also using a SPDIF output and sound stops working suddenly, after
awhile, without a clear origin.

In my case, restarting PulseAudio is not enough. I even logout and login
again on Ubuntu, using the same account or another, but there's no sound
back. However, if I put the system in hibernation and then wake it up,
sound starts working again (thanks to a tip from another user on the
Ubuntu Forums).

These symptoms make me think that it has nothing to do with PulseAudio.
Am I right?

Some people have reported similar problems here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1760669 . I'm not sure if all
them are related or have a common origin.

Thanks.
