Public bug reported:

A. I think it would make sense to create a metapackage "synce" that depends on:
synce-kde, synce-serial, and the rest of the useful synce packages. This would
save the average user the first section of most howto's and web searching.

B. synce should install udev rules for the creation of ttyUSB devices so
that they automatically launch synce-serial-start on the device
(currently synce-serial-start uses the device previously specified by
synce-serial-config but this can either be modified or the config tool
can be used in the udev scripts).

C. Run "vdccm" at boot-time (so that the device can be plugged in before
user log in, and raki is launched). Currently "raki" launches it but
that depends on user login - and does not make much sense. vdccm should
not run as root so it may mean the creation of a "pda" or "pilot" user.

D. Automate the running of raki at login, so that the user has GUI
access to his working PDA whenever it is plugged in.

I believe that just these fixes would make the Ubuntu user experience
with WinCE devices much nicer, as currently the user needs to do quite a
bit of research to know what to install, and then to know that he needs
to run "raki" and "synce-serial-start" as root once the device is
plugged in, etc. This would automate the whole thing.

This is an attempt to automate the connection of PDA's but I have been
unsuccessful in attempting to apply the patch, as it seems that it
applies to an unknown branch of synce-serial that I cannot find in
sourceforge's svn or anywhere else: http://www.mail-archive.com/synce-
devel%40lists.sourceforge.net/msg00375.html
