Still no sound. I've upgraded from Edgy to Feisty, and then tried to set the model option to snd-hda-intel by configuring /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and rebooting. Following your recommendations, I've tried the following configurations options snd-hda-intel model=ref options snd-hda-intel model=m6 I also loaded the packages linux-source, skimmed the module source code and tried the following model option, without success. options snd-hda-intel model=m2-2
In all three cases, 'dmesg' gives the following message (the number in the message varied with each test, but the rest of the message stayed the same) [ 41.252000] hda-intel: Invalid position buffer, using LPIB read method instead. Once, when using model=m6, the following message was listed a few lines above the previous message, [ 26.204000] hda_intel: azx_get_response timeout, switching to polling mode... but it did not appear the second time I tried model=m6. By the way, as a test of the module's error messages, I set model=nomod, because 'nomod' is not a valid value, and I expected it to produce an error in the dmesg output, but none appeared. Do you know if that is correct behavior? Do you have any other suggestions? I'm willing to modify and compile the snd-hda-intel module to debug this.
