This could be a variety of things. Let's get some basic details down. 1) Does this happen with the upgraded version of lirc available in the archive too? 0.8.7-0ubuntu4.1 2) Do you have lirc-modules-source installed? 3) If so, remove it. Does it fix the problem? 4) What's your dmesg look like?
